Currajong Dual Occupancy, Townsville

The proposed dual occupancy development is in a Heritage Character Street, requiring analysis and careful removal of elements detracting from the character of the front timber house and the addition of a second residence to the rear of the site.

The form of the dual occupancy dwelling took advantage of solar orientation and breezes, the existing Mango tree and open space; whilst referencing traditional elements that define the heritage character of the street such as:
  • window hoods,
  • large roof eaves, and
  • the undercroft as an extension of living.
The separate living and sleeping modules were designed to be pre-fabricated in the factory and transported to site to reduce onsite construction time and disturbance to the residents of the front dwelling.
