Maroochy Urban Improvement Program
Capital Budget Estimate (Overall for Master Plan areas):
$34 million of enhancement works across 6 town centres on the Sunshine Coast Purpose of the Project: "The Shire wide Urban Improvement Program was based on Maroochy Shire's Strategic Plan Objective 4.5- "To facilitate high standards of urban design in retail and commercial centres". The principal retail and commercial centres, particularly the regional centre at Maroochydore, subregional centre at Nambour and the centres in the tourist areas of Mooloolaba, Coolum, Montville and Buderim, have a major influence on people's perception of the Shire as a place to live and visit. Council by implementing its Urban Improvement Program was ensuring that the public realm of the Shire's centres are developed and maintained in the Spirit and character of each community's desired future. Council's team of in-house designers within its Urban Design Unit ensures works are designed to be culturally, environmentally and aesthetically responsive and appropriate." In all centres, Maroochy Shire Council formulated local area plans (LAP’s) in conjunction with the community. Through the local area planning process a need for urban improvements to be undertaken was identified. As an outcome of this process, the Maroochy Urban Improvement Program was initiated. Designers involved in the program over its 11 year duration included: Phillip Daffara (Coordinator) Sarah Chalkley Stuart Blair Emma Appleton Brent O'Neill Rob Burgess Russell Dart Larissa Rogers Grant Calder Jamie Franklin |
