Master planning

Proserpine Primary SS Master Plan

The Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) program as well as the Queensland Government’s Primary schools for the 21st Century program, which were delivered in a tight timeframe (2009/2010) to help stimulate the economy were the main drivers for the school to urgently develop a long term concept master plan for its campus.

Various factors of change, including significant funds for new facilities (Multi-purpose hall, Science/Technology Innovation Centre, Library expansion and classroom upgrades) put pressure on the school’s assets and stakeholder expectations. A master plan that provides strategic design directions was urgently needed to:
  • Ensure the allocated BER funding smartly delivers the facilities/resources the PSS  school community needs;
  • Ensure appropriate design solutions within the context of the existing school site;
  • Improve the image and branding of the school; and
  • Conserve valuable open space within the grounds.

To achieve the above outcomes, the masterplanning process included a:

  1. Place Check audit of the school’s built environment;
  2. Site analysis of opportunities and constraints;
  3. Site assessments of the Hall and Crèche and Kindergarten locations;
  4. Concept designs for the Hall and Science Technology Innovation Centre; and
  5. Priority list of future capital works
