Place Visioning / Concept

Mountain Creek SS Community Hub Concept

To clarify the architectural brief for the proposed Mountain Creek State School’s (MCSS) community facilities hub, a stakeholder engagement plan was prepared and implemented in the second half of 2007. A report documented the key findings of the stakeholder engagement process, mainly the survey and community workshop.

The outcomes of the community workshop and stakeholder survey for the proposed community hub were to:
  • Inform community stakeholders about the project and confirm local demand and support for the facilities;
  • Develop a list of potential users;
  • Collect stakeholders’ aspirations and design values that ought to shape the community hub;
  • Discuss potential users’ different ideas and expectations; and
  • Validate the intended mix of uses for the facility for inclusion in the architectural brief.
Outputs of the workshop include: (1) a set of design principles and values for the building; (2); a preferred mix of uses; and (3) design feedback on the current concept plan. The majority of participants agreed that the building ought to reflect the community’s local concern for environmentally sustainable design and that the concept plan could be improved by increasing the amount of storage and the accessibility to the kitchen.

Generally, participants found that the workshop process enjoyable and a valuable way of developing a shared vision for the proposed community hub.
